Abagale Fischer was raised by yeti in the hills of the Himalayas. Nobody could imagine that such a displaced soul would become a Guru within our musical flying circus. But, much to our surprise she somehow contained within her the seeds of a musical genius. Those who’ve witnessed this intellect may have found it unnerving if perceived from a metaphysically challenged state of mind. Those who walk the path quickly became avid followers and have been a part of her eccentric progeny ever since.
When asked what his goal is when he performs, Anthony simply stated, “ I want the guy in the corner that doesn’t even like dancing getting it ON!” Catch Anthony's funked up soulsonic downtown NY groove every 2nd Thursday when he and DJ mOma visit halcyon for Bless Up!
Former halcyon the shop buyer Anthony Parasole ('05-'06) has been on fire. It started back in '08 when he and former halcyon classic resident DJ Spinoza (Undercity '99-'04) co-founded the Brooklyn loft monthly, House-n-Home. Anthony's now legendary sets there defined the edge between vintage NYC house and techno. Alongside another halcyon alum, Levon Vincent, Anthony launched, Novel Sound, and a 2nd label from the pair, Deconstruct, followed shortly thereafter. Both imprints are vinyl exclusives and are amongst the most hotly tipped by the techno world's leading tastemakers. The notoriety Anthony has since received has vaulted him onto the big stage with appearances at international hot spots like Berlin's mega-club Berghain and front page features on ResidentAdvisor.net lauding him as a key contributor to the renaissance of NYC house music. We couldn't be more proud! Anthony Parasole's remix of Sasse & James Flavour's "Happy Ending" is out now on Statra Records.
Stuart Li aka Basic Soul Unit was born in Hong Kong and raised in Toronto, where his musical tastes were formed under the influence of the nearby dance music hubs. Taking in Chicago's jack, New York's groove, and Detroit's machine soul, he augmented them with the elements of jazz, funk and Brazilian rhythms which he picked up during his years at Toronto's vinyl outlet Cosmo Records. Together these parts have formed the unique sound of Basic Soul Unit, which has since found its place on records released by such forward-thinking labels as Ostgut Ton, Philpot, Versatile, Creme Organization and Mule Musiq. Stuart's DJ sets showcase the full range of his diverse musical tastes while keeping a firm grip on the dancefloor with heavy-hitting shuffling house, crunchy techno and an occasional broken beat curve-ball.

He began playing drums at age nine and by the age of fourteen, he was playing in a number of bands. The Techno rage that took over NYC in 1991 inspired Derek to step out from the background and create his own style and music. He honed his production skills, recording, mixing and editing in the studio. As a result, he has been recognized as a top DJ/Producer in New York's electronic music community since 1994. His outstanding creativity and style in remixing has gained him releases on many well respected underground electronic labels around the world. He is best known for his productions on the Tech House labels Plastic City, Intrinsic Design, Matter:-form as well as his unofficial remixes of Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Junior Boys and his productions under the alias Sideview. The limited vinyl release including remixes by The Pale, Hans Bouffmyhre and Osborne was heralded by MBeat as "one of this summer's most exciting releases" and Bruce Tantum of Time Out NY said Derek's "original mix is a lean and angular, Detroit-tinged track full of inventive, unexpected twists and turns." Since this release, he has joined Subtrak as head of A & R where his talent for finding new and exciting sounds/artists will be put to good use. Dub Gabriel has been pushing the boundaries of the New York music scene for over 10 years. As an up-coming Musician, Producer, and DJ in the mid 90’s, his musical explorations led him to the fringes of the downtown scene sharing the stage & DJ booth with a who’s who of artist including Meat Beat Manifesto, Francois K., Mussafir, Jamalski, Last Poets, Dr. Israel, Jneiro Jarel, Karsh Kale, Nicodemus, Badawi, Kode9, Scientist, and many others, as well as performing at such places as the United Nation, The FIFA World Cup & The Lincoln Center. On the recording front, Gabriel dropped his first solo album, Ascend (Baboon Records) in ‘03 and followed it up with the low-end assault of Bass Jihad (Azra) in ‘05. Bass Jihad spent over two months on the CMJ radio charts and achieved critical acclaim from publications including Billboard (who compared him to Brian Eno!), Interview, XLR8R, Village Voice, LA Weekly, New York Times, Resonance & Paste, ending up on several influential best-of-the-year lists and was featured in the book Global Beat Fusion. The word is definitely out as he is gaining much demand as a producer, remixing tracks for such artist as Balkan Beat Box (Crammed), Raiz (Universal, Italy), Tigarah (Universal, Japan) as well as scoring music for MTV, VH1, and Nickelodeon. 2006 found Gabriel relocating to Berlin where he immersed himself in the wealth of underground electronic music that the city had to offer, and laid down the foundation for what is now his new album, Anarchy & Alchemy. Returning to the US in 2007 to complete the album, he brought together an incredible crew of guests and collaborators that include Michael Stipe (REM), Dr. Israel (Praxis, Method of Defiance), Yo Majesty (Domino Records), Juakali (Pinch/Dub War), Oz Fritz (Tom Waits/Bill Laswell), Scotty Hard (Wu-Tang), Mark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto), Sami Yaffa (New York Dolls), Mee (Asian Dub Foundation/Smashing Pumpkins), San Francisco Conservatory Graduate Orchestra, and many others. Born in Belize, but raised in New York, DJ/Producer MKL, aka Michael Kenneth Lopez, has been refining his unique blend of sophisticated modern afro-inflected beats for 20 years. Considering the list of heavy hitters he's been called on to produce and remix, MKL maintains a modest profile, preferring to use his label, Lion1Music, to shed light on an eclectic roster of artists reflecting his personal musical explorations.
Nick Chacona’s productions have evolved into a mélange of styles from across the world of dance music, melding the arpeggiated sounds of Rimini, the trackiness of Chicago, the minimalism of Berlin, and the dubbed out vibes of Kingston, often all in the same song. Paul Schulleri is a contemporary music producer from Göttingen, an old and famous little city in the middle of Germany. Currently, he lives in the heart of music in Berlin, where "moving forward" is the password to access the challenging world of Electronica. Although he started playing the piano at the age of six, Paul has always been attracted by modern technology and deeply fascinated by everything related to technological development and science. His foundation with piano was followed by a vivid interest in Jazz music. Through music improvisation, his journey into Jazz became the pinnacle of unpredictability and sound experience. In the '90s Paul discovered electronic music and his expedition toward a new musical universe began. Seeing technology as the future and embracing the past through the eyes of the present, he finally found the key to merging his passion for music with his keen interest for technological innovation. Inspired to create his own sound, he took his first steps to produce electronic music with a very basic set-up, consisting of an Atari computer and a mono synthesizer. Tens of tracks later, after experimenting with beats from Trip-Hop to Drum and Bass, tunes began to come to life leading him to write and perform for his local theater. This gave him the chance to build up a strong reputation around his peers as an innovative music creator. Moving to Berlin to study sound engineering exposed him to the surreal world of Minimal music. Deeply influenced by this captivating genre, Paul began to produce a variety of Ambient and Minimal tracks, often performed with software and hardware instruments coded and built by himself in his small recording studio and laboratory. In 2007 he set up a side project under the name "Nakotika" and produced a series of tracks and remixes, to explore even deeper the multi-layered aspect of Minimal Techno. The last five years have seen Paul increasingly more involved in his career, performing live in several clubs, festivals and events like Aqua / Berlin, PHB / Berlin, Villa / Berlin, Primary Colours Festival / Berlin and Elektromagnet Rolltor / Warstein, Jenseits von Gut & Böse / Berlin, Relais Club / Berlin, Tape Club Berlin to name a few and producing several tracks and remixes released on many record labels. Paul Schulleri's "Strich & Faden" is available now from Subtrak on halcyondigi.com

Rising above flavor-of-the-month dance trends, veteran NYC DJs Eamon Harkin (FUN, Sunday Best, Wurst Edits) and James F!@#$%^ Friedman (Refuse, Go Commando, Throne of Blood Recordings) have joined forces to create Prime Time, a showcase for classically-minded yet forward-thinking dance music, irrespective of genres. Think disco, house and techno for grown folks rather than nu-ravers, somewhere between New York's legendary Fixed nights, Glasgow's long-running Optimo party, and PS1's Warm Up series. With a home base at LOVE, on one of New York's most incredible soundsystems, Prime Time has hosted epic sets from Metro Area's Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, Norwegian edits maestro Todd Terje, and a rare New York appearance by producer/remixer extraordinaire Ewan Pearson.
“Adultnapper” is a shadowy figure drawn from the dark reaches of Francis Harris' imagination; an anti-hero, part creative genius gone awry, part tortured dystopic philosopher, part paranoid vigilante outlaw… and part Harris himself. In other words, not a guy likely to list Britney amongst his guilty pleasures. So, we asked, what does Adultnapper listen to in his spare time?...
War, Recession, Climate Change, Terrorism, and to top it off Michael Jackson is dead. True, the Yankees won the World Series, so it wasn't a total write off, but 2009 mostly blew. Good thing we had some amazing music to help us through.
What happens when a misanthropic punk philosopher is caged within the sunny confines of house music's euphoric rhythm? Adultnapper happens - and night falls on eden... at around 124 bpm. Here's the enigmatic brooklyn dj/producer's pick of ten new tracks from halcyondigi.com

A Chicago-based DJ and music producer, Doc Link is well known for productions like “Back 2 Chicago” with Malik Alston and Roy Davis Jr. (Kingstreet) and remixes such as “Send Me Over” and “Something” (Truth Manifest Records). Having worked together on a number of tracks such as “A New Reality” (Milk & 2 Sugars), Doc and NYC-based house legend E-Man (Bang the Party / Deep See) decided to create a space for themselves to release original music, unfettered by the confines of traditional record industry protocol. The two talents have come together, melding their unique New York and Chicago musical sensibilities to create Liberate Recordings.
Lola's first exposure to dance music came over the airwaves. Cruising down I-95, she happened upon a Tony Humphries radio broadcast from Club Zanzibar, and her life literally changed. From that day forward, she sought out house and dance music wherever she could find it, from early pop house acts like Black Box to cassette tape compilations of British rave and acid house. A particularly formative teenage experience in an Italian disco further solidified her love for dance music and nightlife culture. Upon moving to New York City in 1990, she immediately set out to find more. Attending events as diverse as Giant Step, Soul Kitchen, Bang the Party, Konkrete Jungle, Body & Soul and Be Yourself, Lola's musical perspective came to embody a collision and cohesion between various strains of underground music. In the 90s, Lola met friend and collaborator, Eric "EMan" Clark of Bang the Party. The two launched Deep See in May 2000. In 2007, third resident and partner DJ Spider (Plan B Recordings) joined the family. Deep See is now in its ninth year, making it one of New York City's longest-running weekly parties. In 2008, Lola began working with DJ Spider on the Plan B label. They released their debut co-production "Haarp EP" in April 2009 and will be releasing an EP and several more collaborative projects before the year is over. Lola has had the honor of sharing the booth with dozens of great talents, including Charles Webster, Mike Huckaby, Rick Wilhite, Keith Worthy, Malik Alston, Slam Mode, DJ Pierre, Alton Miller, Titonton Duvante, Hector Romero, Tedd Patterson, Oscar G, That Kid Chris, Cevin Fisher, Mr. V, MKL, Mariano & Nikodemus from Turntables on the Hudson, Jeannie Hopper, Anthony Parasole, Black Jazz Consortium and many more. In 2009, Lola will be focusing on productions, growing the Plan B label, her bi-weekly webcast on Axiom Studios, and continuing to hold it down for the dancers every Tuesday at Deep See.

A New York City native, and founder/label manager for the Anticipate and Microcosm labels, Ezekiel Honig’s idiosyncratic brand of electro-acoustic music nestles into a comfortable space between techno, house and ambient - using them as reference points from which to stray, rather than as steadfast frameworks. On his newest album, Surfaces of a Broken Marching Band, Honig constructs his music out of an almost incidental assembly of materials, editing and processing them into a whole which adopts the shards as if they always belonged. Drawing on the rich history of musique concrete, he incorporates a material nature into his sound by imbuing it with a host of field recording/found-sound sources in the search for a balance between digital software innovation and the physicality of the world around us. The low hum of a pad and ground skimming percussion noise play off brightly distended piano chords, thick, wheezing horns, and widespread constellations of re-pitched guitar. Playing with looping and lateral progressions alike, softly chugging 4/4 rhythms built from the rattle of metal, wood and plastic barely nod towards muted slow-motion techno, while reworked structures retain his characteristically warm, textured sound. In this manner, Honig delves into electro-acoustics with a sensibility that includes elements of clearly defined genres, while allowing those definitions to quickly dissipate, opening the spectrum to sounds from crowded parties in cavernous spaces, subway stations, the interiors of an airliner and other geographic departures.
